In today's world of boxers where conformation, temperament and health are rapidly and overwhelmingly becoming "less than desireable", it is great to hear of those boxers who do still excel in all of the above. The lines behind Tessa have triumphed in great health and longevity. I would like to share pics of Tessa's sire and grandmother, both of who have been extensively health tested into their senior years and are looking and acting like they are years younger than their actual age.
Shandown's Chances Are
"Chance"

Above are recent pictures of Tessa's sire, Chance, as he celebrates his 10th birthday in 2005. Chance is in excellent shape for his age and continues to pass all health tests with excellent results. Retired from stud for a number of years, requests from select breeders looking to recapture what the older generation has to offer the breed has led to a couple of very exciting litters. Watch for these pups to strut their stuff in the ring soon!

Shandown's Centerfold
"Bunny"

Bunny is Chance's dam, and an ever elegant matriarch at the ripe old age of 12+ years in the photo taken above. Beyond her fair share of gray hair, she was in outstanding shape for her age and was continuing to pass her health tests with excellent results well into her golden years. Bunny passed away in 2006 the well achieved age of 13.

Tessa
Chance's Contessa of Fortune CGC
Have you ever had the pleasure of owning one of those "once-in-a-lifetime" dogs? We have! Tessa was one of those dogs, a perfect start to a new dream. She was to be our first step into the show ring, and although she never had the opportunity to shine in that venue, she became everything else that a dog owner would ever want in their canine companion. Tessa had an almost human-like personality and mannerisms....she was extremely intelligent, so smart, so talented, so loveable, so "perfect".  She "grew up" with the kids and was their favorite playmate; she always went above and beyond to do everything they asked and make them laugh. She was their snuggle buddy, their protector, their friend.

On May 1, 2007 we lost our treasure. Tessa was laid to rest after complications arising from a surgery.  The 8 1/2 years we had her in our lives will forever be ingrained as amazing memories on our hearts.
